Dylan was busy recruiting while he waited for Dee. Of course, Aarne had helped him start this mess. It now had evolved into naked lounging around on blankets. Tom had no idea. He and Robert and Martyn were fast asleep. They had left Damien to watch them, which he and Dominic were doing... well from the top of the bus and watching for cops, not wrangling in the madness.
By this point, Mikkel and Joey had joined them. Syn was in the skimpiest pink panties, harassing his brother for trying to pull them off. Eli was harassing Lex to lose his pants and Rekker was laying out on his stomach. The ginger was smashed out of his mind which he shouldn't be while on his meds. Jake was next to him in some ridiculous spiked codpiece which had the ginger laughing. There were also plenty of drinks which Trygg had supplied by diving into Ivar's hooch store and Harald's mead. Tyko was helping him ensure everyone's drinks were filled and who knew who else might show up in the near future.
Dee just shrugged, adding, "Aarne has a tiara." As though that explained anything at all.
In his favorite fluffy spa bathrobe, Jay was a bit overdressed for this particular party. He wasn't in the mood to be getting in the nude. Dee, on the other hand, wasn't hiding an inch of his thin frame. He was naked as a jaybird and slowly making his way into the circle of blankets. He even struck a pose.
"DEE!!!" Mikkel was so drunk that he almost fell over when standing up from where he laid on the ground. Jay got a cheek kiss before the Dane hugged Dee.
"I made you something when Dylan said you were coming." Mikkel was about to share his pile of pillows with Dee. Surely that would be more comfortable than the ground for someone as boney as he was.
"Okay, pour me a shot of whatever you're having." Jay laughed, waving to the others.
"Oh yeah? What's that?" Dee asked, not immediately catching on that the pile of pillows was the thing he made.
Before Mikkel could answer, though, Jay replied, "Looks like a comfy nest fit for a little Blackbird."
No doubt about it, it would be a lot more comfortable for Dee than just a blanket on the ground would be. The singer really didn't have any padding at all once the clothes came off. Aside from Jay's lap. Which was, in part, why he chose that fluffy bathrobe of his.
Jay climbed in the middle of the pillow pile, offering Dee a hand and helping him sit. One way or another, he'd probably end up in Jay's lap soon enough.
Dylan started laughing and brought over the drink of the night, imported tequila.
Mikkel had dashed off and came back with what looked sort of like a daiquiri or a frozen margarita. He all but jumped to the ground beside Dee, remarkably not spilling anything.
"It's not alcoholic." Mikkel was proud of it. He had basically made something that tasted like someone created a slushy from spiced mead. He knew Dee didn't like to drink but Mikkel wanted to include him. Mikkel was in one small thing, a belly chain that had tiny glass apples hanging from it that clinked quietly as he moved around.
Dylan joined them, bringing a drink for Jay, Mikkel and himself. "Aarne said the old man's going to be pissed if he wakes up."
Dylan meant Tom who, Aarne was right, would have a meltdown to discover half the musicians were laying around naked in an open lot.
Dee lit up when Mikkel brought him something non-alcoholic that looked as fun as the pillow party itself.
"...really?" He took a sniff before tasting it. In contrast, he could smell Jay's drink before it was even in Jay's hand. Still, the older man took a generous sip.
"Woah..." Jay choked on his margarita. "Jesus. That's intense. Is there anything other than tequila in here?"
The tone was one of laughter, not criticism, though. Because Jay had specifically asked for whatever Mikkel was having, and that was definitely what he got!
"Well, THIS one is just perfect." Dee insisted, raising his glass slightly.
Dylan leaned against Jay, laughing, drunk and obviously having fun. "Joey made them."
He said it so loudly that Joey looked over. "I did what?"
"The drinks." Dylan snorted a laugh. Joey threw a pillow in their direction but it did not make it. The bassist is barely upright.
Mikkel scooted over next to Dee. "I'm drinking the alcoholic version if you want to compare." He offered to Dee if he wanted to sip it but Mikkel thought he got the taste right.
Jay took another drink. He knew what to expect this time. But damn, it was still strong. He set the glass down next to him after that. He didn't mind a nice buzz, but he had no intentions of getting wasted.
Dee, meanwhile, covered his drink as Mikkel scooted closer. "No... no, this one is just fine the way it is."
"So, what'd we miss?" Jay asked, going off Dee's initial assumption of the madness. "And who won? I guess?"
Mikkel looked over at Dee with a furrowed brow when he covered his drink. "Did you think I was going to spike the virgin drink I gave you?" He's obviously confused from tone of voice. "I was going to offer you a sip of mine."
Dylan glanced around and shrugged. "I don't think anyone decided but..." Dylan pointed at the bus stairs where Trygg was sitting down with a guitar. "I think the elf might serenade the town."
Mikkel leaned in, carefully, giggling. "If you spill it you're naked and Jay could wash you." The Dane winked and leaned close while sipping his drink.
"Tyko told me he used to play in a ballad band with his brother." Dylan had talked to the other blonde because they had similar energy and it was natural. Trygg was starting to play song that he hadn't in a long time. Though he was mostly a bassist, he could play guitar but it wasn't his preference for sure.
Dee couldn't help but chuckle back. Mikkel was right. The worst that might happen was sticky pillows. But his arms did shake a little as he took a drink. His concern wasn't entirely unfounded.
All their attention, though, turned to Trygg as he started to strum the acoustic guitar. They were used to hearing him on bass, but like most of the musicians on the tour, his talent stretched beyond just one instrument.
Jay didn't know the song, but it was nice to listen to. He assumed Dee didn't know it either, or the singer probably would have joined in.
"Ballad band, hm?" Jay asked. "Dee's been writing a ballad to go on our first album. Maybe we should run it past them when he's got it all worked out."
"Oh, that would be a good idea!" Dee nodded. "It's not finished yet, but we're getting close. It's the end that's taking a while... I want a higher pitched voice than mine to sing with. I was thinking, maybe Raev?"
Dylan sat with them and nodded. "I think Tyko said he was 11 or 12 when his brother asked him to drum for the band they had." Dylan didn't think that was strange at all. His brother had been singing since he could speak, or it felt like that when he thought back on their childhood.
Mikkel was watching Dee's drink while they sat together. He was ready to make a grab for it if needed.
"Raev has been working with Jan. I heard him practicing and I think his voice is getting higher." Mikkel wasn't sure. Though Dee might well understand the ins and outs of vocal practice and how it affected range.
"I think there are a few ballad writers." Dylan commented while listening to both the music and the conversation. He could sing a little but he never trained for it like many here.
"Rik, Raev, Trygg...hmmm....Davy..." Mikkel was thinking at who might have experience with writing that kind of music. "Jake's writing one with Davy but .. it's a secret."
Dylan looked over curiously because this was the first he'd heard of Jake writing much music.
"I didn't know Jake was a songwriter too." Jay noted, and Dee echoed his surprise.
They were already starting to plan outfits and props for their future album cover and next couple of music videos. Naturally, they wanted to give their favorite designer a lot of lead time.
"Oh, if he's working with Jan... he'll be perfect for the harmonies..." Dee was positive about that. "He did an amazing job at the Paralympics too."
They might have both just been guests on stage with the Spiders, but Dee did really want to work with Raev again. That performance solidified it.
"I didn't either." Dylan agreed. "I used to date him and didn't."
Dylan assumed that maybe it was Davy invited him to help out or something but who knew. Jake was over on some of the other pillows and Dylan wanted to go ask.
Mikkel nodded. "Raev has a pretty voice. I'm glad Karl convinced him to sing again."
"I wonder what spurred that project." Jay mused aloud, but didn't feel comfortable asking. At least, not in their spontaneous parking lot nudist colony... If someone else wanted to, though, curiosity would win out.
Musical side projects or not, Kuro could probably keep Jake gainfully employed for the foreseeable future.
"Me too." Dee nodded regarding Raev. Karl wasn't a good fit for Kuro, but he was a good fit for Raev, and that's what mattered here. "I got to hear him do karaoke when we first met... and it was one of the best renditions of that song I've ever heard."
Dylan could only shrug but maybe after his drink was done he could go get the vampire to give up his secrets.
Niko would certainly be happy that Jake wasn't going back to a movie set in the near future and Jake was more than happy to keep doing music videos. He found he liked it, at least the style that Kuro was making anyway.
"What song?" Mikkel asked curiously. "The first time I heard him sing was when we were kids and he came to sing with Rik at one of the recitals."
Granted, Dee wasn't sure when they'd have the schedule to shoot the actual videos. It was going to be a tight squeeze to get a full length album ready before Europe. The promotional videos - at least ones that would fully capture the cinematic visuals Kuro was quickly becoming known for - might need to be done afterward.
"It was 'She's Gone' by Steelheart." Dee added energetically before taking a sip of his drink. "He nailed it... Blew the room away..."
"A good place to hear good music for the first time." Jay encouraged. It made him feel nostalgic about Dee's final recital at CalArts, at which he provided the stringed accompaniment to Dee's piano and voice.
The first time the couple had met Rik, they'd talked about his studies and the eventual recital. Of course, Jay eventually started talking strings, and that went on for the better part of an hour. But Dee was still intrigued about how different the programs abroad were compared to CalArts.
"...Is it open to the public?" Dee asked, urging the unspoken to be spoken. His was, but he wanted to be polite and make sure.
If it was, Dee and Jay were definitely going to be there. No doubt about it.
"No." Mikkel shook his head. "But... Rik can request tickets."
They couldn't take everyone but Rik seemed close to Jay so it might be a good bet that he could go with Dee.
"I don't know how many they get for their Advanced graduation." Mikkel bit his lip and shrugged. "I think his position as one of the best players in the school gets him more too."
Mikkel wasn't totally sure but he did know some about the academy and had been there a couple of times.
Dee's was essentially open to the public, though he did remember a certain number of seats he could reserve for his family. He offered one to Jan. The rest, he offered to Jay since his parents wanted to come support their son's new boyfriend. At the time, he still felt a bit uneasy around the couple, simply because they were parents and he didn't know what they might try to do to him. But things got easier in time.
"I hope there's enough... I really do want to see his recital... very much!"
"Oh, same here." Jay agreed. "Family members first, of course."
"WE don't have family." Mikkel meant the three Danes though, it is probably good that Ollie and Torden aren't in earshot or they would jump in on Jay's side.
"I'm not going back to Denmark." Mikkel shook his head. "I don't want to. You can have mine and Ansgar's tickets."
"You're PART of your own We." Jay insisted, some of the alcohol likely hitting him already. "You can't say you're not."
Dee, however, understood the reluctance on a more personal level. While it didn't happen for his recital, his parents did show up to their Cleveland show. Much to Dee's shock and absolute terror.
"...the recital is in Denmark while our tour is in Sweden... for... reasons."
